Malapascua island diving
Resorts
The Crown, Malapascua
The Crown is a unique property on Malapascua, suited more to discerning, independent travellers. Think a cross between an AirBnB and a higher quality hotel.
Located three minutes walk behind TSD, there are a good few steps to climb to your room (maybe 3 flights), but when you get there, you are on top of the world! Or at least, on top of Malapascua, with views of all sides on Malapascua and the sea!
The Crown are only 4 rooms and minimal staff. But that means it’s great value for money. Resort manager, Jess, will welcome you, give you your room key, and show you around. And if she not on site, she is available by phone or WhatsApp and is almost always just a few minutes away – or can arrange for someone to assist you.

There are two rooms with two queen beds, and two rooms with one XL king and a sofa bed. Let us know what you prefer. There is no on-site restaurant, but there are many options for breakfast and other meals nearby.
The Crown has close connections to TSD. Regular TSD customers may remember one of the owners, Dino, our manager of 10 years. And his partner in the Crown, Lee, who first came to Malapascua over 10 years ago to do a six month PADI Instructor Internship with us, and like many of us, fell in love with the island too.

More details
The hotel is situated centrally, close to the main port area and the market, and just a few minutes walk to Bounty Beach. It is perched on one of the higher points on the island, meaning it’s quiet and secluded except during the annual fiesta celebrations during the first two weeks of May, at which point it is loud! The name has a dual meaning. Firstly, it is situated atop a large hill, like a crown on top of a head. Second, we aim to offer high-quality features and services associated with royalty. If you look closely at the logo, you will see that the middle of the crown is a mountain with a diamond tip at the top (that’s the hotel). Underneath the crown sits the letter “M”, which is for Malapascua. All the while, the intricate design of the crown is meant to resemble the local art, Abaca, a native plant that, when dried, is used to weave into baskets and other designs. You will see these natural touches around the rooms to accent the local flare.
All our rooms face West, so they are perfect for stunning sunsets all year round. However, the best sunsets come between April and November when it sits directly in front of the rooms. Each room has two outdoor chairs, an outdoor loveseat, and a small coffee table so you can enjoy a cold drink while watching the sun go down.
Each room can comfortably sleep four people.
The rooms are brand new as of March 2020, with minimalist design with high-quality features, including a 1.5 HP split type AC. to cool down the space quicker, a modern and clean bathroom design with a large vanity mirror, natural wood furniture throughout crafted by local tradesmen, safety box, silent mini bar which is stocked with local beers, and our coffee and tea corner which features a kettle and a 1L French Press with Philippines own ground coffee so you can have that perfect cup of coffee in the mornings. Individual wifi box in each room, so guaranteed good connection.
The Rooms are appointed with two queen beds or one king bed and a queen-sized sofa bed. The sheets are high-quality 400TC 100% cotton, with a fluffy duvet, four down-fibre pillows, and a pillow top spring mattress for comfort. The towels provided are bath towels, hand towels, and face towels. In the bathroom, you will find bodylotion, shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel in our eco-friendly refillable pump bottles, as well as our paper-wrapped natural hand soap made in the Philippines.
We emphasize environmentally friendly features such as double-insulated ceilings, double-paned (soundproof) glass sliding doors, and solid wood entry doors. We also offer refillable water dispensers in the room for free for drinking water and coffee or tea. In addition, our laundry system uses a specially formulated mix of minerals that oxidizes and sterilizes the linens and towels without harsh chemicals, leaving zero wastewater from the process. Not only that, we only air dry our sheets to give you that feeling of freshness.
Booking your Resort with Thresher Shark Divers
Because we do not own a resort, we will not bind you into a room that might not suit you. Tell us your needs and we will suggest the perfect resort from the wide range of room types we offer to suit every need and budget.
We have several resorts we use regularly because of their high quality and service standards. But if you prefer something different, we are more than happy to help you find your perfect accommodation for your perfect vacation.
There are some great restaurants on Malapascua and we will show you the best the island has to offer in terms of food, one of the best of which is Oscar’s, the rooftop pub and restaurant located above Thresher Shark Divers, and its baby brother on the beach, The Wilde Bar.
