Two of the most practical and rewarding PADI specialties — Underwater Navigation and Night Diver — available individually or as a combined package. Navigation makes you a more independent and confident diver. Night diving opens up a completely different side of Malapascua’s reefs.
Night Diving on Malapascua
Malapascua’s reefs are completely transformed after dark. Hunting cephalopods, bioluminescence, and rarely-seen nocturnal species like the mandarin fish come alive once the sun goes down.
Our night dives take place on the house reef and nearby sites where we know the best spots for critter hunting. Expect to see octopus, squid, nudibranch, and if you’re lucky, the elusive mandarin fish during their sunset mating dance.
Course Overview
Knowledge Development
Navigation: compass use, natural navigation cues, distance estimation, and search patterns. Night Diving: torch handling, communication signals, what to expect on a night dive, and how to find your way in low visibility.
Skill Development Dives
Navigation: guided compass and natural navigation exercises in daylight dives. Night Diving: a pre-dark familiarisation dive at the site followed by full night dives as darkness falls.
Specialty Dives
Navigation dives around Malapascua’s local reef sites with specific search and return tasks. Night dives on the same reefs — completely transformed after dark with hunting cephalopods, bioluminescence, and rarely-seen nocturnal species.
Prerequisites
PADI Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent) required for both specialties. Minimum age is 10. No prior specialties needed.
Adventure Dive Credits: Completed a Navigation or Night Adventure Dive as part of your Advanced Open Water Course? It counts as credit toward the corresponding specialty. Let us know when you book.
