TDI Technical Diving Courses

TDI Technical Diving Courses

TDI Decompression Procedures

This course examines the theory, methods and procedures of planned stage decompression diving. This program is designed as a stand-alone course or it may be taught in conjunction with TDI Advanced Nitrox.

The objective of this course is to train divers how to plan and conduct a standard staged decompression dive not exceeding a maximum depth of 45 metres. The most common equipment requirements, equipment set-up and decompression techniques are presented. Students are permitted to utilize enriched air nitrox (EAN) mixes or oxygen for decompression provided the gas mix is within their current certification level.

What will we do on the course?

Theory comprises further discussions on decompression theory, DCS management and different methods of decompression planning (tables, dive computers and computer generated decompression schedules). It will also introduce the concept of developing risk management techniques to introduce detailed dive planning, greater safety through problem anticipation, management and execution. These subjects are reinforced during the training dives through simulated single and multiple problems. The course will include (after successful mastery of all course skills) a decompression dive to a maximum depth of 45 metres.

Why do the course?

  • This is an introductory tec course - see what it's all about!
  • Extend your diving and depth range - dive a little deeper and/or stay longer at depth, while managing the associated risks.
  • This is a necessary course for further tec training
  • Challenge yourself - advance your diving knowledge and skills.
  • Dive Pros
    • Gain more detailed knowledge to help teach decompression theory
    • Preparation for "self-reliance" skills required as a professional diver
    • Challenge and advancement of diving skills
    • Will enable instructors to become PADI Self Reliant Diver Specialty Instructor.

  • Advanced Open Water Diver
  • Minimum of 25 logged dives
  • Minimum age: 18 years

Course Content

  • 4 Open Water dives, with 2 deeper than 30 meters, minimum total bottom time of 100 minutes
  • Academics - 6 hours minimum of classroom and briefings
  • Knowledge review and exam.
  • If TDI Advanced Nitrox is taught in conjunction with decompression procedures only a total of 6 dives are required
  • 3 days minimum

Required Materials and Equipment

  • TDI Decompression Procedures Student Manual

This course can be taken in combination with TDI Advanced Nitrox. Find out more.
